Pisa..the church on the Hill

Whenever i see a church in the middle of nowhere ....up there standing all alone on hill ....i always feel a bit sad...especially if there is a cemetery behind the church...like this one has !!!! There is something very lonely about a church on a hill....well i think so anyway!!!

This church is called Pisa and is out the back of Cressy ...in its heyday it was the christian meeting house for all the farms in the district...well some larger properties had their own chapels built so as to cut down the travel and so the farm labourers could have some access to Christianity... most of the labour on the farms where convicts or ticket of leave mean and women.....

The reason why we stopped here was to look for relatives of Kelvin's family......

His Great Grand Father Daniel Clark went there from Entally House ...another Landed Gentry home(see an earlier post of mine ...i did take some pics of Entally House it is just around the corner from me in Young Town)as a Ticket of Leave man (means he was a convict and had earned his freedom) so his job there at Connerville was a better paying one. He was a Farrier(shoed horses) by trade but he was not buried at Pisa...don't think many convicts got to be buried in that cemetery ..we knew that already...we were just checking to see if any other rellies where there..we did find a couple... just have to check them out now

how sad it this little church?????

How many people have opened this gate i wonder?????

the road to Cressy... mist rising from the paddocks with the Western Tiers behind...it was just 8am in the morning and where we were off to at that time?????

  1. I love old churches and grave yards. There's something so beautiful about them. I love that you went shovelling poo. Fascinating country stuff.
