Tamar Island Wetlands Bird Sactuary

Two weeks ago when Hattie was up staying we went on an adventure to the Tamar Island Bird Wetlands Sanctuary... a great place to explore and see the swans, Egrets and water foul or all descriptions...there is a very well appointed Information Centre you pass through (it cost us $5 for both of us...cheep rates for families or if you have a Park pass even better) that has all of the birds of prey that have been "stuffed and mounted" these are indigenous to the area along with mammals, reptiles and small animal life..... you are right up close to them in the wetlands....in the very environment they live in.... all this is just at the end of Riverside and 15 minutes from the city itself....how good is that??????
Now the reason you are seeing these pics now is because i took them on my phone...yep i forgot the camera...and i couldn't figure how to get them off...Kelvin to the rescue...mmmmwwwaaahhhh thanks)
you don't have to get down and muddy either ...look at the boardwalks you have to walk on right in the middle ....all the way there and back...nice...great for wheelchairs or oldies like me...(even the island has smoothish gravel paths to get around on) ...

Now if i could find the information leaflet i could tell you what all these relics are!!!! the info leaflets numbers them all along the boardwalk with a brief history ...it goes to 13....

there are three bridges to cross with seats to sit and enjoy the view on the bridges...(very Nanna friendly this walk)

but all she wanted to do was run ahead to find the next number...
the silky rustle of the breeze in these grasses was like music...we stopped to listen to that and the frogs plus the reed birds.....we were the only ones on the walk as it was nearly 3.30pm when we went ..... they closed at 5 pm ,.... the walk takes about one and a half hours round time ...that is looking at everything plus a bit more for a real of the exploration the island

Now we know we have had flooding from the Cataract Gorge and this proved that the tides have been high as well ...it was not flooded the day we went but there is the evidence...

the sun was going down on the river and the swans silhouetted in the distance...magic

we made it to the island and saw the plough embedded in the tree where it had been left many years ago and the tree had grown around it...the island was part of a farm ....bought or donated for the wetland sanctuary... there are more things to look at on the island but we were scared we might get locked in so we are going back again next time to explore more...

the view...we are standing on the Tamar Island...(yes i I know another sigh!!!)
Well Done Hattie you walked and ran all the way there and back ...a couple of kilometers at least.....
