We arrived just in time to feed the birds..... yes!..... these are wild birds that come in every night around 4pm for my brother to feed them.... he feeds them mostly seeded bread and sunflower seeds...they wait on the fence ...calling for him to throw it out on his lawn... they have started coming in sitting on the outdoor table and the back of the chairs and even landing on his head and shoulders and eating out of his hand...yes they are really wild birds..... hundreds of them every night....

How cute are these little tails waiting in a line......

Yes i am just preening while i wait for the "shop" to open....

That was one of the things I loved when we lived in Sydney (the first time). We were in an apartment and every night the rainbow lorekeets would come and sit on our balcony fence and we would feed them- usually bread soaked in honey water. Oscar and Remi were 5 and 3 ish and the birds would land in their hands to feed. When we lived in Sydney the 2nd time we would get all kinds of birds in our back yard. We put food out on our picnic table for them- One day we even had a pair of KING parrots (look them up - they are stunning) come and sit out there on and off for a whole day. The parrots in Aus really are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThey are so tame! When we first moved into this house, we started feeding the pink and grey galahs, but after a few weeks, HUNDREDS of them would be waiting silent and still on the powerlines by the time we arrived home. Had they waited all day? It was a bit stalkerish, and then we heard that someone was fined thousands for feeding the birds, so we promptly stopped. (Don't tell anyone, but now we have a birdfeeder in the backyard, and the birds visit daily, just not in such a scary way!) Wendy xxx

we had similar experiences on our trip through NSW and Qld over Christmas. The kids loved it. The Rainbow Lorikeets seemed pretty happy about it too!
