Melbourne trip

Himself and I travelled to Melbourne on the weekend to witness a  beautiful girl marry a handsome boy!  Ill share some of those photos later in the week... but also while we were there....

A beautiful day in the city of Melbourne ...

we were in a small boutique motel {a new word i have for a very 60's clean but aged homely hotel} just a couple of blocks from the city..walking distance really...
the walk was filled with gasping and ewws and aahhs and lots of photo stops on the way to the Victoria Markets..
Look what i stopped for..are you impressed???

Art Deco brick work...art at its best...true craftsmanship...

Nostalgia did get the better of me here...i remember having a same fence across our front yard when i was a little girl made of that very same wire the gates are made of...it got pulled down and went to the tip...to be replaces by palings...sad!!!

stunning beaten tin and iron gate latch...so retro...just forget about the Lockwood door lock...a marriage of elegance and necessity i guess if you live in Melbourne city...

Original Art Deco tiles in exterior verandah walls....

I want to come back and explore these places another weekend.... well perhaps i might get the chance one day!!!!

Graffiti Alley Art...Amazingly beautiful....

i really wanted this felted ball ottaman...really ..I am truly heart broken that i only had carry on luggage allowance...crying all the way home....{does anyone want to have a go at making it for me?????}

Lace work everywhere ...all you have to do it keep looking up and down the houses as you walk ...All these eye popping pics were all in the space of three blocks too remember...

the trams have become more modern now...boo hoo...

THE VICTORIA MARKETS
the veggies are still cheaper {and fresher}here than anywhere else..wish you could have experienced the smells, the melodic banter of the stall holders and the visual feast of colour ...i saw. smelled and heard it ...we got there just on 8 am and it was buzzing with activity already...in fact we were sort of late for a lot of the stall holders..they start their days at the Market at
4 am....

a big box of leather belts all rolled up ready to be hug for sale

the bling...every girl loves bling...

and just for you Tanya...these were Quail chicks ready for sale..but there were chickens, hens and layers plus ducks of varying ages...plus free range eggs by the hundreds....

The Victoria Markets...not what it used to be..not really as many bargains as you would think...and every third row had a repeat of at least one or two of the same stalls....
Ask me if i will go again...mmmm maybe..but not to do the whole three hour walk up and down the rows...not all of them again...but for the music like these guys played ...Ask "Himself" ...he would have happily sat and listened  all day...wish we had found these guys first ..i could have left him there while i shopped.

Anyone want to give me a good Chrissy Present...????
yep another trip to Melbourne would be the BEST Present ever....

  1. Maybe the lovely couple invite you over for the Christenings that will Bless their union ;).

Lovely pictures Nettie. It seems you really had a great time besides the wedding... I also love to find, where I don't expect, details that remind me of "old times" mingled with the new and great times.

    Take Care,
    Teresa

  2. Beautiful photos & post! Such a beautiful bride. Looks like we love the same things about Melbourne, the history & atmosphere is on every corner. Would have loved to catch up, if even to walk the streets with you. Was out of action when you were here though, but there's always next time! Your welcome to come & stay with me anytime, I'm always keen for some company & fun. I live in 5 star hotel too so its just like a holiday. Much love Carissa xxx (I hope you get the Chrissy present you want, if solely for selfish reasons to catch up).

  4. Some really gorgeous images Annie. I too am particularly fond of that old federation twist fencing and gates and have salvaged some from tip shops to incorporate into our backyard. The photo of the chicks made me smile; we visited the old aunts yesterday and (again) Maime told the story of going to the markets with her father as a little girl (1930s) and always begging him to buy her a chick for a penny. She would tuck it up in a box with a hot water bottle and a ticking clock but they invariably died, probably because the hot water bottle cooled.
Thank you for the memories Annie and Maime
