Mexico Memories....

My man is watching the footy and i have just come home from catering for a dinner for 30 youth and parents from my church so i thought i would put my feet up and check out some of my old photos and archive them....didn't get far!!!

so i thought i would share some....

Three years ago in May just gone i took a trip to Mexico ...on my own...on a very long flight...with 8 stops and take off before i finally reached my destination...Merida ...on the Yucatan Peninsula... i was staying for a month with Chelsea and David and the girls as Dave was there for a year doing research for his PHD into the slash and burn agriculture of the Yucatan Peninsula... You see the ground is so rocky they cannot plough so they just slash the growth down and wait for it to dry then they burn it and when it is cold they plant their crops in the ash and wait for the rains....

It was so hot there what with the fires burning the dead foliage and the actual summer ...if you click on this satellite pic you can see the fires burning over the peninsula...i really understood why the Mexican take siesta's!!! no joke...it would reach up to the 40-45 degrees during the day and go down to 20-25 degrees in the night..(on night it went down to 19 degrees and we went and put on a cardigan...).no air con there ....the wiring in the houses could not take the overload .... i slept in a cotton hammock slung across from one side of the room to the other with a fan just moving the hot air around...you always had a cold shower ....

but it truly was an amazing experience...an adventure of a lifetime for me...

so here is just a peep at one tiny section of the photos from Mexico..

the ruins...were just so accessible to every one and to think they were thousands of years old and i was actually walking among them... if it had been anywhere else in the modern world you would have had to pay a fortune to just view from behind barracades and there definately would not be any walking on them or touching them....

as was this little Mayan boy who was most interested in me and the girls because of our white skin. and blonde hair..(mmm and i did even have a good tan by this stage)

Oh these Mayan temples where just so amazing ...this is Dzibilchaltun... they were actually restoring the steps so we could not walk to the top of this structure....

Bethan and i sitting in the sun ..what an awesome backdrop...so hot

Here i am at the very top of one of the Mayan Pyramids..Darby took this picture..yep they actually climbed to the top with me...

UP ALL THESE HUGE STONE STEPS ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP...that rope was there to hang on to...and hang on i did!!!!
That is Bethan in the yellow hat you see to the right of the shot.

Here they are ...all the way up there....
Oh what brave fearless girls you are......

Now this is the most amazing place...TULUM... the Caribbean
White beaches...blue blue seas...palms growing out of the sands...

Oh that was the life... Chelsea and the girls and i drove there for a few days ...we stayed in a little cabana right on the beach...heaven
I think i could be a beach bum in the Caribbean.....

  1. A trip down memory lane. We were always bummed that we didn't make it down there when they were there, but it was just too soon after we moved here. The girls look so little and cute. I especially would have liked to have gone to that beach...We tried a couple of tropical holidays when we were in Singapore, but the beaches were no where near as nice.
