Ground Zero...commemorated

Four years ago we were in New York...we passed by Ground Zero and this is the fence where people from all over the world left their messages of love for those who lost their lives...it was very raw at the time, with security at full height still...
The sadness there was almost tangible .... you couldn't help being affected by the loss of these people of New York...
The Queen of England has just paid tribute and commemorated all those lost and who survived this most terrible disaster....
this reminded me to go and look at my photos again ...it brought it all back....
They say "Time is a healer"... but i still felt that sadness just looking at the photos....
the lights burned night and day and the machinery worked with and eeiry reverence...

the last vestige of the mighty building stood reaching up out of the earth.... see it there above the last pale blue car????

Here you see those twisted girders that stands there still.... as a memorial and reminder of a huge building that turned literally to dust on that fateful day...a memorial to all those who lost their lives both in that building and trying to save the lives of those trapped in it....
i have started with the sadest thing first but i am going to share some of the New York trip with you...stay tuned.....

  3. We lived it Alice and I . WE were doing Math homework together, Getting ready for another warm day. having breakfast. Normal , so Normal every where Normal . When we were called to see the plane hit the tower, disbelief, cant be true. Prepare to take Al to school , just an Ordinary day. Home another plane hit another tower, planes lost. Knowing our Bishop flew and was in that city this week. Was he safe? What is happening "please explain this to me in some sort of sense" Not being able to get a hair cut that day nothing open , stores all closed, planes no longer flew over head leaving trails all the time in Colorado's blue skies. driving on a deserted 4 lane highway, then a 6 lane freeway and being alone .Unheard of . police cars only other vehicles. 24/7 news broadcasts of it. Seeing those immages over and over and over again , until you feel ill because you are seeing people die. Feeling for the dogs and their handlers looking looking. Especially the dogs, their poor sore bleeding feet. WE never hear now of the dogs who did such a great sad job. So sad to be there and experience the fear, and confusion of a country who thought they were safe. The nightly, hourly runs of the low flying Jets their rumble stopping us going to sleep, or worse waking us up. A child crying in fear of the unknown, and the drone of Jets. Is this what it felt like during the wars I and II. But they were protecting out City. For weeks and weeks. We were in a place of army , airforce and other bases. Also Cheyenne mountain, from where Norad operates . The checking under your cars with cameras, on a trolley, if you went on base.Even saw a motor bike get checked out for bombs. Having to have a passport and a reason to go on base. Seeing/hearing loving christians spew venom and hate and wish murder and mahem on others of mankind. 'Its in the scriptures" scary stuff. Not what one expects from a visit to a Desertbook store. Being called to the stake centre to hear direct words from the prophet, to tell us to remember who we were, to prayer and obey the laws of the land and love those who hate us. To forgive and pull together , Obey the laws of the land Love those who hate us. Finding it hard to find a seat. Comfort and peace he gave me. The cars all carrying a flying flag from full sized monsters on redneck trucks. to the littlest ones on cars. Of workmates being re-enlisted, A president coming to tell his men and their wifes why they had to fight. The over the top Security for that event, w were unable to get to work and didnt know why, SECRETS . Service wives whose husbands went to Iraq and listening to their lives and FEARs.Listen to them and cry with them . Supporting a wife whose husband was blown up and lived. Living reports of his recovery every day. Having a work mate die, some one I knew and had hugged only weeks before his death . his families loss, when he should have retired from the Army, not be recalled. Not hearing about Australia and what was happening here. USA was all important. Finding out from family Australians died too. Hearing ordinary people in fear, being advised to go back to Australia by stangers, who assured me Australia was safer than America now, "If I could come I would too to a safe place. Hearing of Arabs being bashed ,why?? Their places of worship attacked , blown up! Why. Woman and kids treated different .Why? Having days broadcast as High Danger Days. Fear of joining together for a ball game, a New Year, anywhere more than a few people gathered even 2 years later. Fear of travel , for going home for Thanksgiving , christmas. Sad Undiscribale sadness, I felt and feel, Mankinds madness, in 2001 . Now Moving on from it . Seeing a country that never never loose the fear ever. A country changed forever. Jenni Kift

  4. post script from Jenni in case you wondered. Our Bishop flew for the same airline. He picked up the pilot of the second plane into the tower, the night before from Denver. The plane and pilot left before he did ,he waved as they do minutes before the plane flew into the tower,He knew this man, a man with a wife and two wee kids,Our bishop was next in line to take off from the airport and saw the plane hit. All the planes from his plane on were grounded . He was stuck in New York for about 2 weeks, for those first few hours his family knew nothing of his fate? He spoke of it in a Sacrament meeting and we wondered at the plan the Lord had. A humble man before 9/11 more so after.
