Steamfest...Sheffield...

Yesterday was a public holiday here in Tasmania (for the life of me I cant remember what for but we enjoyed it anyway)

We had a much loved little weekend visitor and we took the opportunity to take him where all little boys are in mechanical heaven....
whistles
great puffs of steam
hissing
clunking
oily smells
engines roaring
all the things that little boys love

we love this pic poppy took..the place where the old world meets the future..
the steam world and the Excavator... I am sure he just couldn't contain himself ..his head was swivelling from one to the other....

nothing like the swish and shusssshh of the steam wheel as it rubs on oiled metal..the steamy hot smell of the oil and grease...

the roller was a hit...thundering past us making the ground shake....

but taking us even further back into the past was this tired old team of oxen... yoked together... I hope they were friends???
yeahhhhhh....i am loving it here Nanna and Poppy.....
And these are some of the things we saw during our day...

the chopped and wood to feed the steam engine fires...
there was a huge snake in one shed but this was a close as we got to him....

a little carriage but sadly it was not attached to a train...the door was closed ..no entry for little boys...boo hoo...!!!!
ducks a swimming and even chooks for sale too...
the big steam engine rolling towards us....
check out the driver ... I think he was just as old as the steam engine...
what a cute little face!!!!
and the best part of the day (for Nanna anyway) was a ride on the draft horse carriage...Arliss loved it too..
so many things to see...how we love Sheffield and all the murals painted on the buildings...
here is the draft horses being shod...
time for a pop corn snack...we were tired by now.....
and on the way home we saw this in a paddock just near the Steamfest site...were we caught in the time warp..... No.. just part of the Steamfest
we will go again next year for sure....
