The sign post by the gulch
the crayfishing boats tied up at the jetty in the gulch...these are the pots the fishermen use to catch the crayfish alive then they are trnsported in the hull of the boat which is a huge tank filled with salt water which allows the crustaetion to say alive so that they can be fresher for market...they go all over the world...they are so yummy to eat...delectable ...a true luxury....when you can afford to buy it that is...it is about $60 dollars a kilo and you are paying for the crustaetion intact ...that means you are paying for the shell as well.
This little fish was caught just before i arrived on the jetty...it is not much good for eating i am told ...but good for bait.
the crayfish pots...all stacked up and waiting for the catch
These shells are the bi -product of the other shell fish that Tasmania is well known for...the scallop.... a small round shaped delicacy with a bright orange roe (or sack of eggs)attached ...the whole shell fish about the size of a 50cent piece...i love it grilled in its shell with bacon and worchestershire sauce or curried.....yum
Yum!!! My brother Eden recently bought a boat and goes cray fishing. He finally got me one last weekend - no one else in the King house likes cray fish so it was ALL mine :) Yum!!!
