we started off in the baby animal shed all filled with pens holding baby rabbits, a little piglet, ferrets, a baby llama, birds...i am sure you have the picture and this little girl and her sister were in their element....you could go into the pens with the animals and even hold them....

Now this little frisky fella was wanting a nibble of Chelsea's butt...Mmmm he was a male i am sure...

a beautiful black swan sitting on her eggs in her feathery nest...so close we could almost touch her..

a beautiful black swan sitting on her eggs in her feathery nest...so close we could almost touch her..

and in here are two wombats waiting to escape ....

Just give them a hand full of feed and don't let them run says the keeper....they are so fast.....

Why wont you come down and play???

on the Zoo bus ready for the animal feeding experience.... a fresh breeze but a beautiful sunny day....

Look at his neck...see that lump....this guts grabbed my whole bag of food and swallowed it paper and all... that's it stuck in his neck...we were assured that he will be fine ...they do that often... but it scared me to death..they stick their heads right in the bus with you...

and this goat wanted to hitch a ride
but he got thrown off quick smart.......

Next the camels ....heads into the bus so close to you face and head....you cant imagine how that felt.... I wonder what these two little girls thought????

they fed them from the bus with a bucket of specially prepared food....

These lazy lions sleep most of the day ...soaking up the sun on their platforms....but they did liven up when the keeper threw them some tit bits of meat...the bigger one is actually a star lion ffrom the movie 'Narnia"... he is tamer than his brother and they are literally brothers from the same pride...

the teeth are those of a killer though..guess you never turn your back and the fence around their enclosure is a fortress.

for those from overseas who visit this blog ..this is our very own Tasmania Devil..who is facing extinction because of a yet treatable facial tumor disease that is decimating the numbers in the wild.... there is a campaign to find a treatment .....and this zoo has a breeding program to help keep the numbers up...

Oh and all he was doing was pacing ...was he bored or did he just want to be free..while i loved to be able to view this magnificent beast so close...i wanted him to be free in his own environment....
Now these are rare albino wallaby...these are the Victorian ones that have a gene that actually throws to the albino so there were quite a number of them in the zoo... and seeing as it is a free range zoo..they were all in the open...

there are also larger wallaby of the regular grey variety and Hattie went to feed one who promptly went back on his tail and delivered her a blow to the chest knocking her over and scaring her into tears ...he left a small scratch on her chest...scary.... but well worth the visit...check it out next time you are down south in Richmond...

WOW! Zoo Doo has got some more exotic animals these days. WE used to go there way back when...I think it was called farmarama originally. Mum used to take us there, and then I think I took Oscar once when it was Zoo doo. They didn't have lions and tigers back then!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the interactive places. its no use taking the kids if its not hands on. I will have to remember that place when we visit Collette next.
