Death.... Life .....A gift!!!!

Today i saw the evidence of the death of one of nature's giants ... a massive Norfolk Pine...it had been executed..felled by man..... sadly it had to be so because of her unstable root system and close proximity to mans dwelling...but that very Root system and a small amount of her huge body will stay...it will be recycled into a garden seat that will still stand regally in the same part of the garden that gave it life.....she will still look out over the ocean and be of use to man in a different sense......her body will be carved into a garden seat

From a piece of her felled giant body she unfolded this piece of her outer dress in the form of a laminate from her bark which was her dying gift to me...(watch this spot later to see what i create from such an amazing sacrifice)

The scars from her execution

one small burst of life that still doesn't realize reaching for sunshine and fighting for life will be no longer a struggle for now with the death of its host mother ...it too will die......

The struggle for life imprinted for all to see here on her trunk

There she lay exposed to the elements ...bleeding ...dying...

Her blood so white a pure....flowing through the rings of her years...50 and counting still in the prime of her life

Pooling....ebbing away......

And here is her offspring...severed from the very bosom of his mother as she fell to the earth in her death throws.....still only an embryo ..never to mature.....
Just a moment between life and death....but oh the struggle!!!!!!!

  1. Gosh, that's really quite sad! Beautifully written - I love it when the poet in you comes out. Wendy xx

  2. Yes, very poetical. I hate to see big trees cut down, especially when none are planted to replace them.
