Just before my Dad passed away in September last year he told me he wanted me to have some big planks of uncut timber that he had been storing under his house for over 30 years...He thought they were Huon Pine ..they weren't ...They were Celery Top Pine...Just as beautiful as you can see...
I wish i had taken some pics of the huge planks in their raw state...they were all grey and some with the bark still intact.."Himself" took them to his friend Mark who has his own business up in the old Patons and Balwins Factory...he owns a huge "ripping" machine with the power to turn such raw timber into beautiful pieces like my table you see in these pics..... he made me this new dining table..... he owed "Himself" a favor....check it out!!!!

Our old table,(which we have had for well over 40 years which we acquired from a farm at Rocky Cape and lovingly restored has a history of its own and has grown up with my girls so it is only right it go to one of them) along with the 6 chairs, it went south to a very good home where it will be "loved" for many more years by four little girls... and hopefully one of them will adopt it and keep it in the family (terms and conditions of the gift verbalized by "Poppy Himself")
You can see this table has some amazing character in its grain and its own individual scars....it will be loved by "Himself" and me and handed down as well hopefully...i am yet to record the history in indelible pen on the underside of the table to never be forgotten and for generations to come to read.
we love our new Table .......and the chairs were a great special off the Internet bargain of Bargains...

ReplyDeleteGorgeous table. Do you remember the huge table my parents had with the pew type seats. I was devastated they gave it away while I was on my mission. It's with another family now though and I know they really enjoy it. We once fit 17 people around the table. Treasured memories.
