Australia Day .......Dilema?????

Well from the look of this first pic you wouldn't think it was a disaster...but it was...We planned to go to the beach for the day..

The weather was overcast..

Kelvin went to take Beattie our dog for a walk to get the paper at 7.30am..came back after getting half way ..she was too ill and couldn't walk any further...so after ringing the after hours vet and waiting till 11.30 am to see someone ...
$173.50 and a blood test later..we were still none the wiser....(Vets thoughts....possible pancreatic attack..Labradors are prone to that..bloods will be all in tomorrow..so another visit and another fee..but she is very miserable and totally off her food...not like her..she eats anything)

Definitely no beach or river for her today.....we needed to be close to home to keep and eye on her... or us..

SO a visit to the park it was...

The second option...maybe the Longford Berry Farm would be open...we could pick some berries???
we packed a picnic lunch and off we drove....
NO sorry closed today....dang it!!!

Is she related to the queen?????(After all it is Australia Day you now and a girl has to look her best!!!)...well they aren't pearls i know... but she wore her crystals ..and they did look cute!!!

Huge fist sized Salad "Sanger's"(Aussie for sandwiches)...YUM!!!!

Watermelon was a definite as the day got warmer...yum!!!

WE had a visitor to our picnic..looking for a scrap or two..
A native Magpie none the less..a friendly chap...

Now how did those Smarties get in that sandwich Nanna ?????
..no silly they aren't in the sandwich they are just waiting till it is all eaten then they can be gobbled down too.

OHHHHWWW ..Star Wars yogurt...Obi Wan Kenobi..came on the picnic too..

THEN DISASTER STRUCK.......
WARNING...if you have a weak stomach...look away now ...or proceed at your own risk...
Poppy and the girls were playing a game chasing's and Darby had no shoes on.... yep... she cut her foot..on what we do not know......NO not badly .. ...YES there was a lots of blood... Nanna to the rescue with the first aid kit from the boot of the car...(always prepared)

We managed to wash the wound and check the size of the cut..a decision was made at the time that no stitches were needed (well i doubt they would stitch the wound where it was..My thinking was right when we checked at the pharmacy..i used to work in that pharmacy once ..and make those decisions for other people ..but when it is your own grand kids it is different).

..so we pulled it together with a butterfly closer till we could clean it and dress it properly (now they have steri strips) and came home to do the proper sterile job..

The wound.... uncovered

the goods to fix it up...

Here it is all ready for the steri strip closer to hold it together..the wound is maybe as large as a 10cent piece ...on her left heel on the outside...

all taped up...

all bandaged up... Our brave Darby ..I would give her an Australia Day Award for being such a brave soldier..she didn't even cry.....
(Hattie should have an award too for worrying about cleaning up the blood on the concrete under the picnic table..she did it with the with paper towel..good job Hats)
That was our Australia Day...how was Yours??????????
Bring on Next Years Australia Day please....

  1. Wow, what an adventure your day turned out to be. Nice job with fixing up Darby's wound too. Very impressive ;-) Sorry to hear about poor Beatie. Hope she's all better soon.
Here in Radelaide it was HOT! I had friends over for a yummy BBQ, then we went to an adventure playground for some fun on slides and flying foxes etc. Was a great day!

  5. I forgot that the kids are on summer holidays- lucky for them that they can spend it with you. Poor Darbs- best thing to do in a situation like that is just to press it together and hold it STRAIGHT away. I once took Oscar to the hospital for stitches for cutting his thumb and I'd done that and he didn't need stitches because it was already meshing again. Now Darbs will need to put her feet up and have some Nanna love. Hope Beattie's feeling better soon too. Just Australia day here- may have to bake something Aussie. Hmm I know it's not QUITE right, but we do love ANZAC bickkies.
