summer days in the sun...amounts to fun

Last week we had lot of days doing "stuff" as Rosie calls it (I think that is the big sister influence coming through)... so i just want to finish last week with Rosie ... then i will concentrate on the things happening here....
At Longford there is this amazing little berry farm....you can go and pick fruits like Strawberries, gooseberries, silvenberries and they have Apricots (not enough to sell huge amounts..now all finished of course ) plus cherries etc and they are all TOXIC SPRAY FREE..... we went to pick the Thorn less Blackberries and at $8 a kilo they are the most tasty berries you can imagine....luscious squish in your mouth berries still warm from the sun and hand pick by your very own self...remember no thorns("Himself" was there gingerly weaving his arms through the vines to pick the best ones in the middle when he heard me tell my dad (who had come for the drive to get away from his "prison" as he calls the nursing home where he lives)there were really no thorns and how funny that seemed to me..."Himself" started picking faster and even admitted that he hadn't realized there were no thorns ...he he)

see "Himself" picking those yummy berries.....

Here is my dad who got a few handfuls to gobble while he waited for us to fill our containers...OH yes of course you can eat a couple while you are picking ..the ones that squish in your fingers when you are picking !!!!!!!

the rows of vines are neatly tied back so you don't have to reach or even get down on your knees to pick and the vines are loaded (still)

NOW this little lady fell asleep and missed all the action of the picking but woke up with the containers of blackberries beside her in the back seat of Poppy's ute...needless to say by the time we got home we had a LOT LESS than when we left the farm....

no jam to be made from this lot Nanna...sorry Auntie Sarah and Mummy...this little girl ate nearly all of one kilo before dinner that night....

Mini Chino (really a warm vanilla milk with sprinkles) and every little girls dream ...a gingerbread man with smarties for buttons and eyes etc...(she only ate the smarties and gave the gingerbread man to Poppy) that was our morning in the city shopping for Hattie's birthday present and a well earned morning tea break at Gloria Jeans......

On Sunday we drove to George Town to visit "Himself's" parents who are both in a Nursing Home at Low Head...Nan has had a stroke and now has pneumonia so we take every opportunity to visit from now on ...Great POP has dementia and has episodes where he is rarely "with it" most of the time but on Sunday when we visited with him he recognised "Himself " and even greeted him by name for just that brief second ....then he was gone back to the time zone of Dementia again....
We took a little break to check out the the beach at Second Sand in York Cove....the tide was way way out...but we saw this amazing army of spider crabs all marching across the tidal sands....there were thousands of the translucent blue and burgundy crustaceans just covering the beach and all on the march to nowhere....

It was so hard for a little foot to not want to stomp on them.....!!!!!

It was home for a little dinner ...Pancakes were the order of the day.... Nanna does them good on her menu..... this time Nanna had the best little helper though...... whisk up those eggs add that milk and sugar ....nanna had those panckes cooked before she had the benches all cleaned... (see the panckes there in the background.... nupppp none left for you ...sorry!!!!!
And that is the end of Adventures with Rosie ... we hope you have enjoyed the adventures JOIN US AGAIN SOON......
that visist will be in the new HOUSE!!!!!!

  6. Nothing like the taste of sweet, ripe blackberries. We've had a decent crop of those down on the back paddock too!
