Quilting ...

Quilting is one of my loves....i am virtually self taught and have learned a lot from friends over the last few years who are so much more talented than i...but i plod along and if i see something i like i dont copy it to the letter but add my own slant on the idea...
This brown quilt is what they call "a quilt as you go" quilt...you place the backing fabric and then the wadding then whatever you are going to have as the top of your quilt goes on at the same time and sew...so easy and fast..... i have signed up with my sister in law Carol at Esme's here in Launceston and we are doing a quilt .... i have so much material in my stash that i could make 100 quilts...typical me saving it for my retirement when i could sit in my rocking chair and quilt...didn't figure on there being no retirement because of the stock market crash....Oh well...i am doing it now fitting it in amongst working and all the other things i wanted to do in my retirement...dont think my girls will want another quilt though as they have at least two to three each and my grand kids have a few as well...so this one may have to be raffled off.....any suggestions???
Carol has made some gorgeous childrens quilts that she has donated to the LGH hospital and they now hang in the childrens ward on the walls.....

No this is not the quilt in question ...this is the sample of the basic quilt as you go technique .....the one we were shown at the class...

This is my first square ...now when Nan and Aunty Floss moved into the nursing homes they left me a whole stash of doyle's and table runners etc..plus my friend Cathy gave me some nice ones......no one uses them anymore (do they???) so i have found a novel way to use them thanks to Lillian at Esme's and her great ideas....

OOOOWWW this is Mary's stash of antique lace from her great grandmother that she is turning into quilt trims....

These are the hands that create the masterpieces at Esme's ....showing Mary how to place her lace on the start of her quilt.....

These are some of my Doyle stash......
And this is some of Lillian's handiwork...oh i aspire to this sort of work!!!!!

  3. Nettie...you're my first follower so therefore, Mmy new best friend! We have exactly the same interests too!!! I have a dear friend the same age as you, who is living and working in NY. We used to create together but I miss her terribly at times. I look forward to many more chats and swaps of patterns etc. I have beautiful linen from my husband's nan but it's becoming threadbare. I cannot find anything remotely resembling the quality of these pieces - love the idea of quilting them.
